On behalf of Cong. Jerry P. Treñas, Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III, members of the City Council, City Officials & the people of Iloilo City, I’m greatly honored to welcome His Excellency, President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, to the City of Love and the most livable city of the country - Iloilo City!
The Ilonggos, Mr. President, are grateful for the various big ticket government infrastructure projects you have so thoughtfully bequeathed and approved for implementation in our city. These enormous projects have resulted in Iloilo City’s unprecedented growth and development spawning a myriad of wonderful socio-economic changes beneficial to Ilonggos. These projects have in fact gave confidence and inspired big industry players to invest and do business in Iloilo.
This new confidence resulted to about 100 billion worth of investment an increase of nearly 7,000 business registrations in Iloilo over the last five years -- which in turn provided some 34,000 jobs and created a wide array of livelihood opportunities for Ilonggos.
The infrastructure projects, Mr. President, also produced wonderful transformations in Iloilo’s skyline and landscape, eliciting wonder and amazement among balikbayans, returning residents and regular Iloilo visitors mesmerized by the new face of Iloilo City.
Aside from the many infrastructure projects, Mr. President, we also attribute the success of Iloilo to a united local leadership, regular strategic development planning and political will.
Iloilo City’s Team PaghiliUSA is about a united local leadership that started in 2010 when Ilonggos chose the right leaders – leaders who consistently abide by Your Excellency’s Tuwid Na Daan. Under the guiding principles of Tuwid Na Daan, funding for infrastructure projects were initiated and provided by your leadership through the efforts of Senate President Franklin Drilon. Ilonggos thereafter showed their gratitude and expressed their trust by delivering overwhelming outcomes in the 2013 senatorial and local elections.
Iloilo’s success also came by way of the Regular Strategic Development Planning we conduct every month to maximize available resources at efficient less cost processing time to ensure goals are met.
But, most importantly, Mr. President, our exercise of political will that does what is morally right rather than what is politically correct has helped us move mountains for Iloilo. This political will was inspired by you, Mr. President, as our model and champion of leadership by example, and we will continue to exercise this as Iloilo commits to sustain developmental programs even beyond 2016.
Mr. President, Ilonggos will forever be grateful to you, to Senate President Franklin Drilon, to Secretary Babes Singson, Sec. Mar Roxas and to all your Cabinet members for working conscientiously and continuously to make our country and our city better, progressive and livable.
In Iloilo, we are all UNITED in saying I AM ILOILO and PROUD TO BE FILIPINO. Salamat kag maayong hapon sa inyo tanan.
